A pair of SQL injection vulnerabilities exist within versions <= 1.1.9 of the Joomla JS Jobs component. The two vulnerabilities are the result of insufficient validation of user-controlled input which is used in the construction of SQL queries that are executed against the database. The first vulnerability requires no authentication and allows a remote attacker to inject SQL syntax via the ‘zipcode’ parameter. The second vulnerability requires the user to have an account with enough privileges to view resumes and allows a remote attacker to inject SQL syntax via the ‘ta’ parameter. In both cases, the injections can be used to exfiltrate potentially sensitive information from the database of the target Joomla server.
- The remote attacker sends a GET or POST request with a crafted SQL injection in one of the vulnerable parameters to the target component page (the request will be authenticated or unauthenticated depending on which PoC is used).
- The vulnerable Joomla installation processes the request and executes a SQL query including the injected syntax.
- The web server/application returns a web page that contains the results of the injected SQL query, exposing sensitive database information to theft.
The attacker must be able to send crafted packets to the target system.

Alert Logic® has evaluated its customer base for exposure to the exploit and has developed signatures for mitigating the threat depending on the security service in place.
The Network-Based Intrusion Detection System (IDS) has been updated with the new signatures for this exploit when detected via Alert Logic Threat Manager™. If this signature is detected, an incident is generated in the Alert Logic console.
Detection of this threat is provided via Alert Logic ActiveWatch for Web Security Manager service. Depending on your deployment of Web Security Manager, you will receive an incident (for out-of-band deployment) or the threat will be actively blocked and rejected (for the inline Web Security Manager Premier deployment) if an exploit attempt is observed.
