Alert Logic has expanded data center deployment protection scope and allows you to set the scope of your protection at the deployment, network, VPC, and now, subnet, levels. Enhanced protection scope allows you access to a deeper level of granularity when configuring your environments. Customers with large networks may find this flexibility particularly helpful, as you can now maintain varied levels of protection within a single network.
Scope of Protection
When creating a deployment, Alert Logic prompts you to assign the scope of protection for each asset in the deployment. Your subscription determines the level of protection you can assign to an asset, and the protection options include Unprotected, Essentials, and Professional. Scope of protection allows you to apply one of these levels of protection to the assets within your deployment, which now includes subnets within a deployment. Scope of protection is accessible within the Alert Logic console at (navigation menu) > Configure > Deployments > a data center deployment > Scope of Protection.
For more information on protection scopes, see our Change Protection Level of an Asset documentation.
Scope of Protection for Subnets
Historically, customers have been able to apply a desired level of protection at the deployment, network, and VPC level for a data center deployment. Now, you can also apply a level of protection at the individual subnet level. Where once, a subnet would automatically have the same level of protection as a parent network, a subnet's scope of protection can now be individually managed. Subnets act independently of both each other and the network they reside within. As an example, the below image highlights a protected subnet and an unprotected subnet within a protected network.
Scope of protection can be edited for any asset in your deployment by clicking on the desired asset and toggling between your protection level (based on your subscription - either Essentials or Professional) and Unprotected. Note that when an asset is designated as Unprotected, no collection or scanning occurs on the asset.
