An assignment policy is a set of rules that defines which traffic appliances should accept or ignore. An assignment policy directs protected hosts to encrypt traffic and send traffic to specific appliances. In a dynamic environment where IP addresses often change, an assignment policy ensures that hosts always correspond to their appliances. Utilize the following information to create, update, or delete assignment policies.

Note: The following information applies only to those customers who have Alert Logic® Cloud Defender™ or Alert Logic Threat Manager™ entitlements.
Create an Assignment Policy
The Alert Logic network intrusion detection system (IDS) automatically creates a default assignment policy for each appliance. You can use the default assignment policy, or you can create a new assignment policy using the following steps in the Alert Logic console:
- Navigate to Configuration > Network IDS > Policies.
- Click Assignment.
- Click the yellow Add icon.
- In the Appliance Assignment Policy Name field, enter a name.
- In the Appliances field, select one or more appliances.
- Complete any additional desired configurations with the Secondary Appliances field, Restrict Network check box, Netmask field, Use existing / Create a new whitelist policy options, and/or Select A Whitelist field.
- Click Save.
Update an Assignment Policy
Use the following steps in the Alert Logic console to edit and update the settings for an existing assignment policy:
- Navigate to Configuration > Network IDS > Policies.
- Click Assignment.
- Click the pencil icon to the right of the desired assignment.
- Make your desired changes.
- Click Save.
Delete an Assignment Policy
Use the following steps in the Alert Logic console to delete an assignment policy you no longer need:
- Navigate to Configuration > Network IDS > Policies.
- Click Assignment.
- Click the trash icon to the right of the desired assignment.
- Click Delete.
Note: Deleting detection or policy configurations affects all interconnected configurations.
