Host credentials can be added individually to each host, as well as at the network/VPC and subnet levels. Credentials are inherited in a parent-child style relationship, so credentials added at the network/VPC level are automatically inherited by the subnets and hosts that fall under them in a hierarchical relationship chart.
You can add credentials in two places in the Alert Logic console - in the Toplogy view or in deployment configuration. To add credentials in the Topology view, navigate to navigation menu () > Investigate > Topology. Select a network/VPC, subnet, or host on the network topology map. An informational box for the selected asset will appear on the right side of the browser window. Select the key icon () near the top of the box, then select the type of credential you are inputting. Once you have input the correct information, select the Add credential button.
To add credentials in deployment configuration, navigate to navigation menu () > Configure > Deployments > select a deployment > Scan Credentials. Then select an asset to configure. A sidebar displays where you can add or view your scan credentials.
Alert Logic supports both local and domain-based Windows credentials, ssh with password or ssh with key for Linux/Unix hosts, as well as SNMP read-only community strings for Cisco-based hosts.
Note: For more information on authenticated scanning, refer to our Authenticated Scanning documentation.
